Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH)

A rating system devised by the UK Government in close consultation with the Building Research Establishment (BRE). The Code for Sustainable Homes is a national standard for the sustainable design and construction of new homes. From April 2007, the Code for Sustainable Homes replaced EcoHomes for the assessment of new housing in England. It is intended to be used to evaluate the environmental performance of new housing, and seeks to encourage market transformation towards sustainable design. Developers can obtain a ‘star rating' for a new home which will demonstrate its environmental performance.
