Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - An assessment of the likely influence a project or policy may have on the environment. It is the process of identifying, predicting, evaluating and mitigating the environmental effects of development proposals prior to major decisions being taken and commitments made. The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision-makers consider environmental impacts before deciding whether to proceed with new projects. Social Impact Assessment (SIA) - Process of analysing (in advance) the impacts on the day-to-day quality of life of persons and communities from a proposed project, plan or policy change. SIA is intended to help individuals, communities, as well as government and private sector organisations understand and be able to anticipate, the possible social consequences on human populations and communities of proposed project development or policy changes. Health Impact Assessment (HIA) - Assessment of a project's potential effects on the health of a population, and the distribution of those effects within the population. Traffic Impact Assesment (TIA) - Enables highway authorities and developers to assess whether any highway improvements are likely to be required as a result of new or modified developments, and, if so, the nature of those improvements.
