Sustainable Transport Planning

The main objectives of a 'sustainable transport' plan is to reduce congestion, reduce environmental impact and encourage healthier and safer lifestyles. Sustainable transport plans (or green travel plans) may include initiatives to influence behaviour and steer people towards more sustainable modes of tranpsort such as walking, cycling and public transport. They may be initiated by the government, public or private organisations (e.g. schools and companies), and may seek to improve public transport and marketing services such as travel awareness campaigns, setting up websites for car share schemes, supporting car clubs and encouraging teleworking.
